SEIU Providers Improve Oregon’s Child Care System
The agreement also created a new training fund for providers, and opened the state subsidized child care program to more Oregon families.
“As a mother and a grandmother who takes care of my grandchildren, this program is not only well-deserved and needed, but is greatly appreciated by parents,” said Crystal Shnexnayder, a provider and SEIU Local 503 member from Hillsboro. In other states around the country such as Washington and Illinois, tens of thousands of child care providers have won similar agreements. They’ve worked tirelessly to find ways to work with their elected leaders to improve their professions and increase the quality of child care in their states.
In states such as Maryland, Massachusetts, and Minnesota, providers are laying the groundwork for similar reforms by uniting their collective voice in SEIU.
