Skilled Bus Drivers Keep Kids Safe
SEIU, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and the Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU)—the largest transportation union in the United Kingdom—formed a transatlantic partnership to hold global transportation companies accountable to employees and passengers wherever they operate.
Two U.K.-based companies, which do business in the United States under the names First Student and Durham Student Services, are the second and third largest private bus companies, respectively, in the U.S.
First Student and Durham are also engaged in a race to the bottom-lowering standards and treating their U.S. workforce far differently than employees who do the same work in the United Kingdom.
Although largely unionized in the U.K., both companies have a history of running aggressive anti-union campaigns at their U.S. operations as they attempt to prevent employees from joining together to win improvements.

As part of the Driving Up Standards campaign, U.S. bus drivers have taken their concerns about employment and safety standards to FirstGroup's Scotland headquarters.
The campaign continues to keep these concerns front and center by uniting with school districts, parents, and community members across the United States who want safe, reliable school bus services.
SEIU, the Teamsters, and the TGWU are now working together to unite bus workers, parents, community leaders, and public officials in order to raise standards for service, employment and safety in the global bus industry.
