What Is Public Services?
Millions of families across America depend on public services employees for their safety, health, education, child care, and hundreds of other vital services that help build safe and healthy communities.
Public service employees include:
- Social workers who care for at-risk children.
- Police, parole, and corrections officers who keep neighborhoods safe.
- Public health care workers who staff facilities for people with developmental disabilities and mental illnesses.
- Engineers and highway maintenance workers who keep the roads safe.
- Workers who maintain parks and recreation areas.
- 911 operators and emergency medical workers who answer calls for help.
- Bus drivers, paraprofessionals, food service workers, nutritionists, clerical staff, and maintenance workers in elementary, middle, and high schools.
- Librarians, custodial workers, clerical staff, and grounds and maintenance workers in colleges and universities.
By joining together in SEIU, public service employees are uniting with the families we serve, advocates, community leaders, and elected officials to set the best standards for public services and to make our communities safe and healthy.
