Building Safe and Healthy Communities

Catrell BuchananEvery day, SEIU members work to make communities across the country safe and healthy.  By joining together in SEIU, state and local public service employees are uniting with community members to set the best standards for public services.

Catrell Buchanan is a caseworker for the Georgia Department of Family and Children's Services. She has worked in this field for the past three years and says the best part of her job is "When we match a child up with a good family and have a successful placement."

By joining together with SEIU Local 1985 in Georgia, Catrell and other state and local public services employees have a stronger voice on the job so that they can win improvements on the job and in their communities.

Members of SEIU Local 1985 recently played a role in winning a legal settlement that is an important first step in improving the lives of thousands of children across Georgia.

Members of Local 1985 are also involved in many other efforts across Georgia. Bus drivers in Bibb County called attention to safety and discipline problems, and school officials listened; kids on Bibb County buses are safer as a result.
